Dr. Sevgi Erdoğan is an Associate Professor at the School of Information Studies (iSchool), and by courtesy at Civil and Environmental Engineering Dept. at Syracuse University. She is also an affiliate of the National Center for Smart Growth Research and Education (NCSG) of the University of Maryland, College Park where she was an Associate Research Professor and the Director of the Transportation Policy Research Group prior to joining Syracuse University.
Dr. Erdoğan’s research focuses on the complex interrelations among human infrastructure, socioeconomic activity, and the environment. Her contributions have been in the broad areas of transportation systems analysis, sustainable transportation and logistics, and integrated transportation, land use, and environment models. She specializes in network modeling and optimization; travel demand management; alternative fuel vehicles and fleet operations; sustainable and resilient transportation systems; emerging transportation technologies and smart and connected communities. Her research has been funded by various agencies, including, National Science Foundation, Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation, Maryland State Highway Administration, Greater Washington Partnership, Maryland Departments of Transportation, Health, Environment, and others.
Dr. Erdoğan is a member of the National Academies of Sciences Engineering, and Medicine, Transportation Research Board’s standing committees on Network Modeling; and Transportation Demand Forecasting; and sub-committees on Emerging Technologies in Network Modeling; Statewide Travel Demand Forecasting. Dr. Erdoğan served on the editorial advisory board of the Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review (2015-2020) and currently serves on Urban Planning, and Energies electric vehicles section topic board.
Dr. Erdoğan received her Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Maryland specializing in transportation. She received her M.S. degrees in Operations Research from the University of Delaware and in Civil Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, and B.S. degree in Geodesy and Photogrammetry (now Geomatics) Engineering from Istanbul Technical University.
